The Other Side Of the River CD brings together and develops the digital EP series, Lietuva, Norse and Briton into a cohesive whole. The Old Magic takes those songs and shapes them into its own thing: The mood is firmly set in Roman Britain. Or is it? Sieben is in more confrontational and hypnotic mood than ever. 2016.

Old Magic
Traust me, scamt land, we are the same:
Heathen and fylde, bleikr and fok. We are the same.
Raise, whirl, unfurl the old magic!
Reisa, whirl, unfurl the old magic words.
Trade knot, skamt land, we are the same:
Heathen, dregg, myrr, drit and rogg. We are the same.
Raise, whirl, unfurl the old magic!
Reisaa, whirl, unfurl the old magic words.
Trust me, scant land, we are the same:
Heathen and field, bleak and fog. We are the same.
Raise, whirl, unfurl the old magic!
Raise, whirl, unfurl the old magic words.

This might be my favourite of Heilung. They've improved a bit on their later releases but their debut is still much meaner, and darker. Maria's amazing voice obviously steals the show but I also quite like Kai's too, especially on the live performance. In fact I'd say get LIFA over this IMO.
The spoken word bits are really cool to hear proto-germanic in use but for relistening purposes they are going to be a bit obtrusive. Nevertheless the proper music here is on continual repeat for me. Rabbit
Tender and gorgeous songs from this Brooklyn duo, “and then all over” is a striking, evocative work full of hushed beauty. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 11, 2021
